Jackie Daly
Button accordion player Jackie Daly who also plays the concertina is from Kanturk in north Cork. Hailing from a musical family he took up the accordion as a child and learned tunes from local musicians who performed at crossroads dances. In the mid-1970s he became a professional musician and teamed up with Westmeath fiddler Séamus Creagh. Their performances and album 'Jackie Daly and Séamus Creagh’ are credited with generating a wider interest in the music of Sliabh Luachra. He joined folk music group De Dannan in the late 1970s later becoming a member of the band Patrick Street with fiddle player Kevin Burke who is also in studio, as is flute player Conal Ó Gráda.
Unsurprisingly for a musician of his standing, Jackie Daly’s accordion is custom made by the French accordion designer Bertrand Gaillard.
Eileen O’Brien
Eileen comes from a family background that is steeped in the Irish tradition. Her father Paddy was instrumental in establishing the B/C style of button accordion playing as we know it today. Paddy was also one of the most prolific composers of traditional music. Dinny O’Brien, (Eileen’s grandfather) played fiddle and concertina and was a highly influential figure in Irish traditional music. He was the leader of the “Bridge Ceili Band” in the 1950’s and 60’s. Eileen’s late mother was a member of the Seery family from Milltown, Rathconrath, Mullingar. Her mother Eileen Seery was a noted singer in her day. Eileen’s uncle, Sean Seery (piper) and grandfather Jim Seery (fiddle player) were both founder members of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann. Eileen is an All-Ireland champion in both senior fiddle and senior fiddle slow airs. She is also a composer and some of her compositions have been recorded by the artists Matt Molloy, John Carty, The Kane Sisters, Paddy Carty & Conor Tully.
The Weaving
The Weaving is Méabh Ní Bheaglaoich (accordion, vocals), Owen Spafford
(fiddle) and Cáit Ní Riain (piano, vocals). This trio brings together the rich musical traditions of three counties Kerry, Tipperary and Yorkshire, their three regions of origin. Their music is imbued with the driving rhythms of the Gaeltacht of West Kerry where they first met; fierce dance music and raw harmonies inspired by a deep understanding of their musical inheritance. The trio have performed across Ireland, Europe and the UK in venues such as The National Concert Hall Dublin, Paris Centre Culturel Irlandais, Masters of Tradition Bantry, Feakle Festival, Electric Picnic, Folk
Holidays Czech Republic, Fire in the Mountain Wales and Sidmouth Folk Festival.
The trio released their debut album, Dlúth agus Inneach (Warp & Weft) in February 2026 to high critical acclaim.
While drawing upon the tradition’s oldest roots from west Kerry and beyond, Cáit, Méabh, and Owen have produced a beautifully creative album that sounds and feels both natural and spontaneous. Their deep understanding of and respect for the tradition comes through clearly,
resulting in a genuinely authentic recording. This is a beautiful weave of tradition and imagination that keeps the spirit of this music alive in a truly vibrant and compelling way.”
